Oxi Clean to the Rescue

  I know this seems like a strange thing to comment on, but I am finding more and more people who have NEVER tried Oxi Clean for the clothes or other purposes yet.  I thought I would share this now because I have a new baby now and quite frankly, babies are messy and are pros at staining clothes.  This is my first and probably only girl so of course I want to get the most out of the cute clothes she has.  Oxi Clean has been AMAZING, not just on her stuff, but all of our clothes.

 

   I first started using it about 6 years ago.  I purchased my first container of powder to help with stains we had in our carpet.  I worked SO WELL, I bought the spray to try on laundry.  I first tried it on a blood stain I had gotten while at work (I am a nurse).  It fascinated me when it bubbled up on the blood which vanished almost immediately.  I could literally see it working.  I started using it on every stain I could see and also threw in some with every load of laundry (I use about 1/4 scoop each time).  We moved to Alabama which has red, horribly staining dirt.  I could not get it out with anything else, but it came out with Oxi Clean every time.  Now with my beautiful baby girl, it has saved so many outfits, I can't even count it.
   We were out of town for almost 2 weeks and I forgot to bring any spray with me so her clothes and stains sat there for many days. I even washed them along the way using things like Shout or Zout that were available. The stains did not come out with those.  When we got home, I sprayed all of the clothes and let them sit for about 30 minutes and threw them into the wash.  I was nervous that the stains would not come out since they had sat for so long and had already been washed and dried, but EVERY SINGLE stain came out.  I just had to share it.  
    It has also worked on the stains I have always had trouble getting out: chocolate, pizza sauce, grape juice. It has worked for all of them.  If you haven't tried it already, take a small challenge and buy a bottle of the
spray or a container of the powder and just see how it goes.  You can often find coupons to help save money on it!  You can also find it in many of the laundry detergents now too!  Hope you love it like I have!

My Baby Girls Nursery!!!

     I am absolutely thrilled that I get to decorate a room for a little girl!  I have loved having my 2 boys and they are so fun, but girls stuff is so darn cute!  I didn't know if I would get this opportunity, so now that I am pregnant with a girl, I am going to make it as fun as I can!  She is just a week away from joining our family and I have FINALLY gotten the room finished.

      I have fallen in love with the pink and grey color scheme and these are the ideas I am pulling together, hopefully for a room she will LOVE!!

     Here are a couple of the room broken down.  The only thing not shown is the cute pink curtains because a temporary bed was in front.  I'll post them later once the initial sleepless nights are over and the bed is moved out!

I plan on posting directions for what I did, but it will be at later time.  I'll link them once I do for anyone interested in using any of the ideas!

Baby Toy Tutorial

This Christmas our family is on a bit of a budget, who isn't, right?  Because of this, and the fact that I love to sew/craft, most of our gifts are going to be homemade.  I have been crocheting beanies, sewing neck pillows and pj pants for everyone.  I decided that although I have a brand new tiny little baby that cares nothing about Christmas right now, I probably better do something for her (besides the stinkin' cute pj pants!!) or the other kids will think I don't like her.  :)  When we moved this last time I gave away ALL my baby things, and since I no longer have any toys I thought that would be something fun.  My babies have always loved those squishy balls with ribbons coming out of them that make noise, or the little books that sound like there plastic in them when you crinkle the pages.  I combined these two ideas and made one crunchy sounding blankie with ribbons sticking out all over.

Materials I used:

Flannel (Scraps I had leftover from baby blanket)

Ribbon, lots of colors, widths, and textures

Packaging for wipes (or maybe even diapers)

Now to get to work.  Because my scraps were on the small side I cut my fabric and wipes packaging to 

6" x 6".  You can adjust this to any size you would like.  Then cut as many ribbons as you prefer, I cut 13, but you can have as many as you would like.  The ribbon needs to be 5" long.  

Now, place one piece of fabric right side up.  Fold each ribbon in half and pin this to the fabric in the order you would like.  Keep them at least a 1/2" away from the corners.  Once all the ribbons are pinned in place, take your other piece of fabric and lay it right side down.  Both of the right sides (or patterned sides) should be touching the ribbon.  

Now you will need to pin the plastic to the wrong side of the material on one side.  I carefully took the pins off the ribbon and pinned it through all four layers.  

You will  need to sew all around the outside of the fabric, leaving a 2-3" opening to turn the blankie right side out.  After you sew all around turn it the right way, using a dowel or chopsticks or something like that to push the corners out. In order to make it so there is not a big opening in the blankie you will sew a finishing stitch all around the edge.  I always start on the side that I have the opening.  Sew about 1/4" from the edge.

Rachel's baby #4...

While Michelle was out here visiting last week she very kindly volunteered to take maternity pictures for me.  Austin has been getting after me to take some, but I just didn't know how cute they would turn out with me taking them by myself, so I jumped on the chance.  She did fabulous!  I felt a little funny being on the other side of the camera, but I really enjoyed it!  

I wanted to show Michelle her fabulous work!!! And give Stacy, Mary, and Melanie a little look-see at my belly. (hopefully it won't be there too much longer! )

Petti Rompers!

I have seen a few of these petti rompers and I am OBSESSED! I seriously think they are THE cutest little girls outfit! So I've been searching pinterest forever trying to find a turorial...and I finally did and made one this weekend. And yes...I'm obsessed with it! Brynlee wore it to church yesterday and we got so many comments on it. There is a guy here who is in the fashion industry and he was so impressed, he said he had never seen a baby dress like that before, he said it looked like a baby designer dress! I was so happy. I just couldn't stop looking at Brynlee's outfit all day. And the best part is...it was SO easy to make! I just did it into a dress instead of a little pant outfit, and I threw on some leggins and loved it! I found the tutorial here. And then I just made a little bow that we made at Mary's with feathers. And for the head band I just cut up 3 pieces of fabric and braided them.
